Gallstones Diagnosis London

Overview of Gallstones

Gallstones occur when stones form in bile in either the gallbladder or, occasionally, in one of the bile tubes (ducts). Gallstones commonly contain cholesterol based material but may form from bile pigments or calcium deposits. Sometimes just a few small stones are formed, sometimes a great many. Occasionally, just one large stone is formed. Gallstones become more common with increasing age and are more common in women than men. The risk of forming gallstones increases with pregnancy, obesity and rapid weight loss and may be common in certain families.
